Open Question: window xp 2002 5738pg-6555 laptop sound problem?

i have a laptop and for some reason the volume wont play anything i have speakers plugged in now i tried headphones they all work i went into sound effect manager and tested the speaker it plays for the test. but i cant get it for anything else (youtube music/video files etc) not options are muted please help?...
